Overview
Carramar and Tapping are bordered to the west by Wanneroo Road which is the responsibility of the state rather than City of Wanneroo due to its significance; and also separated by Joondalup Drive. These roads also form two of the major routes out of the metro area towards the north of the state and the rapidly developing Meriden Park Industrial Area to our Northeast. As a result, issues with these roads often get raised at our meetings.
Wanneroo Road south from Joondalup Drive towards Wanneroo.
In mid 2007 approval was granted for the dualling of this section of road so that the entire stretch of Wanneroo Road until Joondalup Drive will be dual carriageway. A Blessing of the Roads ceremony was held in November 2007.
Wanneroo Road north from Joondalup Drive towards Hester Avenue.
There are no plans approved, but the dualling of this section makes sense due to the rapid development of the “Greater-Clarkson” area and the Meridian Park Industrial Estate.
Heavy vehicles are encouraged to use Wanneroo Road rather than Joondalup Drive to access Flynn Drive and the Meridian Park Industrial Estate, but this does not always happen. Another route to these areas is to take Pinjar Road from Wanneroo Road at Ashby to the east of our suburbs since the realignment of that road.
Freeway Extension
Again there are no approved plans, but the medium term objective must be to extend the freeway north of Burns Beach Road towards Clarkson. This development would also include the extension of Neerabup Road so that traffic for the Meridian Park Industrial Estate would largely avoid the edges of our suburbs.
Joondalup Drive dualling from Wanneroo Road to Pinjar Road.
Most of our residents will be familiar with the difficulties attempting to turn out on to Joondalup Drive. Council of Wanneroo Road has approved funding to dual the section of Joondalup Drive between Wanneroo Road and Pinjar Road in the financial year 2010/2011. The addition of slip roads between the two directions should hopefully make exiting the estates easier in the future.
Carramar Primary School
Success! After lobbying from the association, enlarged kiss and drive areas have been made by the school, lowered speed limit zones extended and crossing places improved. Rangers attend the school and have fined drivers doing such dangerous manoeuvres as driving on the wrong side of the road.
Traffic Lights at the junction of Wanneroo Road and Joondalup Drive
Success! Heading westbound along Joondalup Drive across Wanneroo Road could sometimes take several changes of lights with perhaps only 10 cars getting through for each green signal. We wrote to Main Roads WA who sent someone out to investigate. It was discovered that sensors detecting traffic flow were too sensitive and were treating relatively small gaps between vehicles as a sign there was no traffic. This has been rectified and traffic flow through the lights has improved.
