About Us

Carramar and Tapping Residents Association (CATRA) is a Not For Profit organisation representing the residents of the two suburbs of Carramar and Tapping to the north of Perth, Western Australia.

We were originally formed by Norm and Pam Hewer to support the residents of the then largely undeveloped suburb of Carramar and worked closely with the developers, Peet & Co and our local council, City of Wanneroo, to help shape the growth of Carramar. Norm has gone on to become one of our councillors for the City of Wanneroo, but still has a seat on our committee.

As Tapping also began to be built it was logical for the two suburbs to work together. Although we are separated by Joondalup Drive, we are similar in many ways and the fact that the Peet & Co development of Carramar Golf Course Estate spans both suburbs adds to that sense of unity. For that reason the "clock tower" that sits at the western edge of the boundary of our two suburbs has come to be adopted as our logo.

Achievements

- Carramar Primary School established earlier than planned to accommodate increased young population in the area.

- Community Centre built despite not being planned by the City of Wanneroo

- Wanneroo Road widened earlier than planned.

- Fund raised and staged Christmas Events.

- Requested Play equipment installation in local parks.

- Request that the shopping centre be built earlier than planned.

- Kiss and Drive at Carramar Primary School moved to a larger parking bay

- Some electricity pylons moved to the other side of Wanneroo Road instead of them being placed behind the properties in Balladong Loop.

- Both Norm and CATRA were nominated for Australia Day Awards 2008

Welcome Message from our President, November 2008

Dear CATRA members,

I would like to introduce myself as I begin my role as the new President of the Carramar and Tapping Residents Association (CATRA).

Firstly I wish to thank Norm Hewer for the fantastic work he has done over so many years in the role. I will learn much from him and his experience and thank him for his ongoing support as I do the support of our committee. Secondly, I pledge my support in working with you to continue building a community ethos which supports family life, and a safe and caring environment in Carramar and Tapping.

Please feel that your voice is important in the development of CATRA as we enter a new phase in its development. This development can be seen in the following ways:

- The website is currently undergoing further development and it will include more links to community events, a Trade Directory and general contacts that will be useful to our residents with diverse needs. We welcome you to be a part of this development.

- We are also looking into organising some social events in 2009 and would love to hear from anyone who might like to help out. As you can imagine the organization of community events is a challenging task but one that can be achieved with much support.

- There are many residents who have yet to hear about CATRA. If there is any way in which you can help us promote CATRA we would love to hear from you. It could be as simple as handing out a few flyers which we could send to you for distribution in your street.

- We are currently working on creating a Mission Statement which reflects the core values of our neighbourhood. Your input would be much appreciated. Just drop me a line at the email address below.

Finally, if you have any concerns about issues or events affecting you or your neighbours please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to meeting with you at our meetings or at future events and to hearing from you regarding CATRA and how it can support you and your needs in the community.

You are most welcome to attend our next meeting on December 8th at 7.30pm at the Community Centre.

Warm regards

Renato Bonasera

CATRA President
